Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Girls on the Run!
Here are just a few positions available:
We really appreciate you taking the time to learn more about our organization and offering to help. We have many volunteer opportunities available ranging from a program coach to race day help. We welcome volunteers and organizations to devote time, energy, services, materials and funds.
In general, the requirements to volunteer with GOTR are:
- Genuine interest in leading a healthy life.
- Interest in physical fitness or running.
- Commitment to the mission of GOTR.
- Reliable, honest and positive outlook on life.
- Interest in the issues facing young women today.
- Desire to get involved in a nonprofit organization and help create public awareness.
Coaches & Co-Coaches

The coach's responsibility is to prepare and deliver the provided Girls on the Run curriculum for the 10 week season. Throughout the lessons, the coaches serve as role models having healthy lifestyles and positive attitudes. Most importantly, the coaches should encourage positive behaviors and have fun!
Goals:
- Prepare delivery of Girls on the Run lessons for each session
- Serve as a role model for the girls by being on time, listening attentively, by having a positive demeanor and outlook, and by leading a healthy lifestyle
- To encourage girls as they play games and participate in activities
- To coach the girls on proper stretching, running form and hydration
- To mediate disputes amongst girls in an immediate and respectful manner
- To attend end of the season 5K runs and encourage the girls participation
- Attend scheduled coaches' meetings
- Coordinate race registration with the girls and the GOTR office staff
- Recruit running buddies for your girls and coordinate their race needs
- Return all coaching materials as received in a timely manner
- To be yourself...and have fun!
Commitment:
- Availability twice a week for 10 weeks for 1 ½ hours
- Allow time for lesson preparation
- Must attend end of the season 5K run to run and/or cheer!
Requirements:
- CPR
- Completed application and non-compete form
- Background check
- Attendance at practices
- Attendance at coaches meetings and end of the season celebration

Running Buddy:

A running buddy escorts a team member of GOTR girls on the adventure of their first 5K run on race day. They provide encouragement and lots of high-five's throughout the race and especially at the finish line!
Goals:
- Encouragement and support for GOTR girls completing their first 5K mile running event
- Have fun!

- Finish Line Support
- Splits & Directional posts along the course
- Set-up and Clean-up Help
- Lots of Cheering and Support for the girls!

Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect
and healthy lifestyles through running. Girls on the Run International (GOTRI) is the parent organization of
more than 90 Girls on the Run councils across the United States and Canada. GOTRI establishes, trains and
supports a network of community-level councils with local volunteers.
